Nevertheless Charles, union members should not place too much faith in the Democrats. It is true that the Wisconsin Democrats have currently left the state, thereby denying the quorum required for Walker's bill to be voted upon, but sooner or later they are going to return Wisconsin. To the Democrats, a victory would presumable take the form of being able to broker a compromise in which Walker's original bill is replaced by one which will shaft the unions only slightly less than the original bill, and they many not even be able to get that. Union members in Wisconsin are ultimately going have to rely upon their own strength and not lool to the DP or anyone else as potential saviours. Which means that if victory does occur it will be because union members have successfully made use of their power to shut things down in that state.
^^^^^ CB:
The Dems have used their power to "shutdown" the legislature for now.
Yeah at this point it will be even more powerful if somehow the unions
shut things down in the state. But u r only saluting the sectarian and dogmatic left anti-Dem line, not making an valid point for the movement when u bother to warn against "faith" in the Dems or try to draw a big distinction between the union members and the Dem. The union members and rank and file are not to the left of the Dems or their union leaders. In imagining that they are to the left of the Dems u indulge self-delusion to propup the sectarian left anti-Dem/anti-union leadership line. It's Peter Pan Politics to claim the union rank and file are to the left of their union leaders and the Democrats.
More generally this sectarian left line ignores the fact that the system works by elections and majority votes. It is impractical to try to run the state government over the long run by having strikes. Thus, it is Peter Panism to fail to participate in elections ,etc, to make no effort to fight right-wing Republicans getting electoral and legislative majorities which allow them to put the workers in this dire situation. Peter Panism
Sorry , Jim, right now u need to spend more thought and talk attacking the Republicans and Tea Party not nitpicking the Dems who have taken extraordinary measures in defense of the state workers. This is an emergency in which the workers need all the allies they can get regardless of any long term or larger ups and downs. "Faith" is not the issue. It's getting allies in the immediate fight. This rigorous anti-Dem line has sectarian lefts lining up objectively and effectively as fifth columnists for the proto-fascist Tea Party wing of the Republicans.
Like they say in Harlan County , which side are u on, effectively , objectively ?
