The character played by one of the Smothers brothers in "Casino," the state senator that headed the state gaming commission, is supposedly based on Reid. Reid of course was head of the Nevada State Gaming Commission in the late 70's. The character played by Smothers is portrayed as taking under the table favors from Robert DeNiro's character, Sam Ace Rothstein, the casino director and at one point the movie portrays the character as about to go to bed with an exotic dancer or hooker. I wonder how much of the portrayal is really based on Reid's conduct? He gets alot of campaign contributions from the casinos and I think his son Rory has a strong connection with them.
