[lbo-talk] The Left has more than enough mystique and values, but lacks discipline and accountability

[Just thinking aloud.... and speaking of broad generalizations....]

Thinking aloud: "I think the main problem with the Left is that it´s has more than the needed share of mystique and values, but what if has of those, it lacks of accountability and discipline in its administrative management. " True? False? Discuss....

My hypotesis: ... from the URSS to the Western European socialdemocrats, wasteful spending is inevitable, and progress or lack thereof of welfare programs is often not very acutely measured, and in worst case scenarios, the results are doctored to give the impression of success and to fulfill the political leaders´ agenda (see Cuba´s doctoring of its industrial numbers, etc -it was mentioned on the news reports at the time of Cuban public sector layoffs, that people in charge doctored results to make it look as if the were being productive when actually they weren´t (presumably if they admited their failure their programs or jobs would get lost-).

So, what do the enlightened members of this list have to say?. Say in the URSS was there any objective measurement of the different government programs´ success or failure, and in the case of failure, were corrective measures applied, and anyone sanctioned?, or were just given a slap on the wrist and then business as usual?.

Heartless capitalism is ugly, but in its quest for greed, those who do a bad job get reprimanded, demoted and ultimately fail (unless you´re a US government contractor or part of the financial elites, but that´s a different matter ;-).

Does the Left with its internal values of understanding of others and caring and etc etc have the seeds of its own failure due to its failure to do "efficient" management of the public sector, and ruthless management punishing failure?.

Discusss... (this is a big hypothesis... feel free to refute me or give examples supporting this).
