In my view, this discussion of philo-Semitism is awkward, because anti-Semitism almost always has a mimetic component to it. There's always a desire to possess or take over the identity of the other, of the Jew (or the Muslim.)

Christian Zionism's fetishization of Jewish/Israeli identity doesn't help clarify things, due to it's instrumentalization of Israel, and Israeli Jewishness. However, that instrumental view of Jews is still as violent as a Nazi perspective.
