Marv is right to scoff at Horkheimer’s quote about banquets and offices and 
so on. Horkheimer was maybe thinking of Adorno, who used to have a butler 
meet you at the door, and have you wait while he announced you to the great 
man (so it says in the Marcuse Collected Papers).
