and then there is liberation theology which provides a context and inspiration for much of the proletarian revolution in the American South

the social doctrine of the Catholic Church also is embodied in the very real worker democracy of the Mondragon Cooperative in Basque Country

I'd suggest that in the US, people flock to the mega churches because its the only form of socialism, only form of society around. Everything else is hyper-competitive, workaholic and consumerist. Big Love from HBO taps into these themes.

The radical pacifism of the true Christian message prevents middle America from completely disintegrating.

There are numerous Apocalyptic Visions on offer; scientific, End Time, anarcho-primitivist.. etc etc

science tells us we are completely screwed, we caused it and we cannot fix it, and we will probably all die (or our kids anyway) and there is no after life.

anarcho primitivists add, its a good thing, cause then we can all live communally foraging food forests (after the mega death)

end timers version says, its all part of Gods plan, all you need do is make money, work hard, pray, get guns and a ute and form a militia, vote Republican and wait for the End Times, which will be like some kind of metaphysical paint-ball session with live ammo and the anti-Christ, and after the good folks will prevail in Heaven on Earth

progressive religious types have respect for the mysteries, which really dominate our world.. if we admitted we knew so little, we probably wouldn't have the hubris to have stuffed things up so mucjh
