[lbo-talk] “It provokes screams from the left”

Liberals and despairing leftists keep trying to find some way to avoid facing the fact that Obama is by conviction their enemy -- not their weak or silly friend. Of course our enemies have many strong marginal differences among themselves that they can and do get very angry about; just as leftists can quarrel among themselves. Leftists just have to forget about Washington, D.C. and go to work nursing those elements of a movement that have been appearing around the nation in many localities. Left causes are always iffy -- capital is just too strong. But that makes it even more insane not to put energies where they have some chance rather than this endless wailing that our enemies are not being kind to us.

This is just a footnote to Voyou , not an argument with his post.

Carrol

^^^^^^^

CB: Liberals and leftists and Carrol navel gaze when they debate the issue of whether Obama is _ their_ "friend or enemy", appropriately chummy rather than political terms reflecting a personal rather than a class basis of analysis. All sorts of subjectivity creeps in by this approach , distorting political thinking. It ain't personal ; if's political. The key issue is what role Obama as an institution, the President, plays in relation to the class struggle between the working class and the bourgeoisie in a period when the ruling class is overwhelmingly dominant compared to 50 years ago.

The "left" that Obama may be seeking to provoke is not the left that Carrol refers to. It is the mass of seniors who are angered by any mention of touching Social Security. They are the most capable of getting up politically and making him not do it and fighting the TP'ers all across the board.
