I truly wish I had a helpful suggestion, but I don't. The picture is pretty bleak, and as far as I can tell, it's gotten worse since I put my own kids through the mill. When it was bad enough.
I will say, though, that it's entirely possible you may have dodged at least one bullet. Places like St Ann's, believe it or not, can be absolutely soul-destroying experiences for many, many kids. And there's no real way to tell in advance.
