The list feels like such a minefield sometimes, and I fear even that question will be taken more provocatively than I intend it to be. So, at the risk of seeming overly cautious, I extend apologies in advance for any offense.

I appreciate that response; I was just about at my wits' end. I wouldn't presume to judge your moderation style; I think you've provided an amazing service to, and opportunity for, the rest of us, just by going to the trouble of maintaining the list. Thank you for that.

Julio's last post on the Rhee thread was a welcome example of the kind of big-hearted, insightful honesty without which I think we ultimately lose - at least a lot of battles and possibly the war. Joanna's original post also struck a very raw nerve for me - I've spent a significant amount of time over the past few years working around extremely brutal sexual violence, and that word has an exceptionally disturbing history and resonance in that context - but I also feel like I know who she is as a person sufficiently that after an initial, painful flinch, I was able to put it in perspective and hear the (completely justified) anger that lay behind it.

I sincerely hope we can learn to relate to each other in the ways Julio's post - and the Deleuze and Fitch quotes - demonstrate, because I think the project of human emancipation and the survivability of our world depend on it - and because I fear those who would enslave and oppress us, and destroy the earth, are working 24/7 to do so - maybe even 25/8. And I believe they absolutely *love* it when we hurt each other.
