Mike, this is valiant but sort of hopeless. Carrol's interest in this subject is not theoretical. He's wholly ignorant of economics. Therefore, in a typical jujitsu move, he wants to put down a marker that says it's actually economics that's ignorant, while he's the clear-sighted one. Just let him put down the marker. He's not seeking a constructive exchange with you on this topic, he's seeking an alibi that can justify his rejecting facts or evidence that come from economics. Whatever the outcome of this exchange, he will continue to post his regularly-scheduled PSA: (from memory) "IF Postone is correct that Marx produced a critique of political economy, NOT a critical political economy, then..." Just treat it as a pamphlet from a creationist - smile, take the pamphlet, and move on.
