The trick that makes such nonsense seem almost sensible is by manipulation of time periods, combined with an assumption that achievements must be directly related to the action. A question this silly 'theory' can't answer is: "Why was Everett Dirksen the Father of the Civil Rights Bills?
And why did Gay Rights (though still incomplete) gain under homophobic administrations?

It seems that direct action can have the intended effect only if it helps tipping the balance of political power, but otherwise it is pretty much doomed.
