[WS:] Interesting. A few years ago I attended a UN-sponsored
conference on indigenous development in Burkina Faso. One of the
themes was the promotion of indigenous medicine which was threatened
by transnational corporations that were using intellectual property
rights to patent i.e. legally steal traditional remedies developed by
local practitioners.
So the problem is not simply the implementation of a new agricultural
technology but the power of local governments to say fuck off to
global corporations and their "intellectual property rights."
Fortunately, subverting and sabotaging these "intellectual property
rights" can be fairly easy if practiced on a massive scale. What are
these ratfuckers going to do - put everyone in jail?
