^^^^^ CB: I have to look again to see if he says emotion _and_ reason.
I'm not trying to say that his thesis is all the way left. But the parts I note are major a section of his thesis, and they are remarkably socialist given his personal political history. Especially the one on humans being social animals , not a collection of individuals. The opposite notion is a major foundation of bourgeois ideology, from existentialism to libertarianism, from social "darwinism" to positivism, from Christianity to economic rational man and legal reasonable man.
