Consider Afghanistan. The Taliban, looked at in abstraction from all political realities, were as bad a bunch as one can easily imagine. But both the population of Afghanistan and the rest of the world would be in much better shape if the U.S. had never attacked and the Taliban still ruled.

Nothing, ever, is worse than the results of U.S. military action.
