> In other words, you send out a piece with the rather broad headline "Egyptian socialists reject..." without determining exactly who these people are, or how representative of Egyptian socialists, much less the Egyptian population, they are? And then when queried you say it doesn't matter? Or, maybe, find out for yourself?
The "rather broad headline" was the published title of the piece, which my mail programme included as the subject line by default. My impression has been that using the published title as a subject line is a fairly widely used convention on this and other lists; apologies if in your view that is not the case.
The link was forwarded to me by a long-time South African activist with impeccable creds and deep personal and institutional ties to the socialist left in the Middle East, who has been tirelessly involved for 20+ years with the Palestianian cause, and whom I know personally. I have tended to assume a link from him regarding developments there is in all likelihood worth sharing, or at least "fair game" - at least as much as superficially comparable links from comrades on the other side of the Atlantic. That assumption, as always and like so many, may not bear close scrutiny.
Possibly it would be helpful to formalize a set of referential standards that posts to the list are expected to satisfy, in order to avoid confusion and frustration in the future. I'm happy to assist in drafting such, if you think that might be helpful.
