West performs a caricature of a black preacher for a mostly white audience that eats it up. It'd be like Chomsky speaking with a Yiddish accent, like someone out of I.B. Singer.
^^^^^^^ CB: I'm still thinking about the sort of substantive criticisms of West on this thread, but as a data point he speaks in the same style , with the sort of theatrical clothing, in front of predominantly Black audiences, at least when he comes to Detroit.
Of interest to many on this list, he was on the radio here several months ago , and he had some criticisms of Obama. As I recall it was that Obama is not doing enough for the poor. ( I called in on the talk show and defended Obama , natch, gigggggles) . His discussion on the issue would have been "median" LBO-talk , as I remember.
