Castro, like anyone else, is occasionally wrong -- but I do like his first paragraph. And this time (except for the misuse of the word "fascist") he is quite justified in crowing!
NATO & the U.S. are not fascist (as in Italy): they are worse, and it's an insult to Mussolini to connect him with the plague of the EU/US/Nato today.
It confuses history and it confuses contemporary history to keep dragging in the inter-war period. Fascism even as a metaphor is as dead as the Palace Economy or the Divine Right of Kings.
Carrol
^^^^^^ CB:. On its face, leaving "the inter-war period" out of historical analysis would be confusing. The burden is on you to say why it should be left out, and you don't make an argument to support your conclusory assertion. Why leave out a chunk of years ?
Castro's arguments are sounder and more complete than yours are. Therefore they are more convincing than yours are.
Castro's personal history of making more persuasive arguments on international politics than you do suggests that his use of "fascist" is more prudent than your claim that it shouldn't be used.
