I¹ll be accompanying at auditions, so if you don¹t have charts we can do standards. Auditions for Jazz: Birth of the Cool  (A Plowshares Theater Production)

DESCRIPTION: The power of Jazz comes alive in Jazz: Birth of the Cool, a hot, new musical revue featuring some of the coolest Jazz standards of the 20th Century. From Louis Armstrong to Miles Davis to Wynton Marsalis, we experience some of the best music ever made. New Orleans style, Swing, Bebop, and Fusion Jazz all feature the power of the music as it is reinvented decade to decade.

WHERE: Virgil H. Carr Cultural Center, 311 E. Grand River, Detroit  (behind the Music Hall)

WHEN: Sat. April 2nd, 1:30p-3pm

NEEDED: Casting 1 or 2 Male Actors, Age 20-55, and 2 Female Actress, Ages 20-50. All actors must be proficient in singing and have great presence on stage and in song performance.

PREPARE: Please be prepared to sing two Jazz standards. No tracks. There will be an accompanist. Please bring sheet music if you wish to be accompanied.

ARTISTS INVOLVED: Jazz: Birth of the Cool is Co-Directed by local Resident Company Member Brent Davin Vance. Jazz: Birth of the Cool will also feature musical direction by local Jazz artist Bill Meyer. Musicians include Ibrahim Jones, De¹Sean Jones and Wendell Robinson.

Rehearsals begin April, 2011. The show runs May 5 ­ 15, 2011 at the Carr Center.
