The problem with such polling is that they ignore the political dynamics that leads to such conclusions, as well as the historic makeup of the national Democratic Party and its bipolar dependency on corporate money AND a working class/middle class liberal/POC base.
I'd suppose that the reason why most "strong liberals" (i.e., "progressives") are so much in favor of so much compromise is because they know that within the Dem party, they don't have nearly the power that the more conservative DLC/Third Way/Blue Dog/Neo-Dixiecrat factions have, and thus they have to downgrade their expectations.
The problem is, though, that with every defeat comes the strengthing of the more conservative factions of the Dems, which also enables the Republicans to push the envelope further and further marginalize liberals even more.
All the more reason why "progressives: and Leftists need to bolt from the Democrats and organize an independent Left party and redevelop through a Left Populist/Social Libertarian agenda. The Dems are still a center-right party that keeps liberals on as comic relief and vote padding..and nothing more. Only the TeaPublicans make them look "liberal" by comparison.
