YATES posted:

If you want to be astonished at what human beings could do more than 30,000 years ago, see the film Cave of Forgotten Dreams. It is a documentary by Werner Herzog, whose team was given access to the Chauvet caves in southern France. If this rock art doesn't blow you away, nothing will.

GULICK responds:

That's a curious title -- "Cave of Forgotten Dreams." Maybe it's inspired by the title of a documentary about the _making_ of a Herzog film, Les Blank's excellent "Burden of Dreams" (in which Herzog comes across as a rather lugubrious phony in existentialist drag, among other things)? But thanks for the tip, I will be on the lookout!
