It is not clear which Greens in which nation you are referring to, but the above absolutely does not hold for the German Greens.

The Greens are generally perceived as a new bourgeois party of well-to-do urban professionals, and the big talk in the news media these days is about how the Greens may well replace the CDU as the dominant center-right party.

The Greens had left origins, over 30 years ago. Most of the major left figures left around 1990, the rest around the time of Kosovo war. The Greens do not even pretend to be a "left" party anymore.

The CDU now sees the Greens as its main competitor, especially after the elections in Baden Württemberg and in Bremen.

I'm really not trying to be snide, but this confirms my view that a lot of leftists in the U.S. are working with a picture of European reality that is at least a couple of decades out of date.
