Harvard, Yale and Columbia have used the excuse of the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" to let ROTC back onto their campuses. To my knowledge representatives of LGBT university groups have not contributed to these decisions.
Apparently, the repeal of DADT stands for some kind of standard of civilized behavior to the heads of Ivy League Universities since it mirrors their own university codes. However, the epidemic of rape in the U.S. military, with some studies citing that thirty percent of women in the military have been raped and seventy percent have been sexually assaulted, continues to remain unaddressed. The repeal of DADT does not address the issues of trans and gender non-conforming members of the military. But all these ethical considerations are usually debated within a bubble whose privilege it is to ignore the more pressing questions of invasions, occupations, extra judicial kidnappings, targeted assassinations and mass killings of enemies of the state.
Happy Memorial Day weekend!
