Point taken. Indeed, to paraphrase Kissinger, zere are liberals und zen... zere are *liberals*. Always lots of exceptions to any general rule.
I don't know whether Carrol means that we ought to stop using the term at all. But a term being imprecise doesn't make it useless. If it did, we'd have to stop talking altogether.
