just came from Occupy Oakland, which is turning into a very big affair, maybe 10 000 people now, people streaming in..

one thing, News Corps, Fox News TV networks local affiliate had an unmarked, plain white van for hours in a very prominent position. Only one tiny local affiliate logo on the camera, but otherwise completely unmarked.

like most of the big firms in Oakland, they have put colored workers out-front, i.e Fox News affiliate a black journalist, all the banks black and latino security workers. Probably trying to create a wedge around race. aka white anarchist university educated middle class kids destroying jobs of unionized (Service employees?) colored people protecting peoples jobs a tellers etc...

anyway, typical Fox News, News Corp culture... just like the UK

News Corp as surveillance and agit-prop, News Corp as counter-revolution

I gave the number plate of the un-marked van to the legal team

...

also, this morning a local black activist-journalist JR, Misister of Information, on the Block Report on KPFA tried to sensibly raise the question of race and gentrification, racial tension in Oakland... its a real issue, race and gentrification... lots of the urban sustainability hipsters homesteaders are buying foreclosures.. often with money given to them by their babyboomer oldies http://www.blockreportradio.com/

race and gentrification are the biggest contradictions within Occupy Oakland in my view, and also, by the looks, JR.... I am told that in the community meetings in West Oakland, local black citizens dont want any more Berkeley yuppies flipping real-estate or becoming "homesteaders"

lets not forget, the homesteaders where also settler-colonists, taking aboriginal land, but in many cases, following a bio-warfare genocide, often actually intentional infestation of common European diseases...

anyway... overall, Occupy Oakland, a very mixed scene, and in lots of ways, a really transformative event, creating all sorts of polycultures.. building bridges, breeding hybrids
