ISO came out of the International Socialists, who were around since the 60s. They were Trotskyist and working-class oriented. In my view, as cadre organizations went, their mental health was above average. Their approach was focused on workplace organizing, and the tended to encourage workers to be active without being very prescriptive about just what should be done.

They have been involved in rank-and-file challenges to established union leadership. You would not find them involved in electoral or Democratic Party activity. I never thought much of their strategy, but I don't have a better one. I always thought they were good people.
