----- Original Message ----- Huh? I approved of the post I was forwarding as such a contribution. We need more, quite a bit more, is all. Earlier criticism on this list was kneejerk expression of personal feeling about so-called "violence." That was the blowing off I was referring to. And it was interesting that that mere expression of personal gut feeling tried to dismiss so-called "violence" as mere feeling.
Actually, I myself tend to be wary of black bloc actions, but I thought the attacks on them from this list were pure bullshit not grounded in adequate knowledge.

Really? How do you know? It seems you have just blown off a contribution to that empirical picture.

----- Original Message ----- It will be a while before a trustworthy empirical account of what happened in the Oakland General Strike. Until more is known about it "criticism" of it seems mere blowing off.

One of my students was in the Black Block in Oakland. The Whole Food store told employees that if they participated in the general strike they would lose their jobs and the black block decided to surround the store, armed with shields. Suddenly another black block emerged and started attacking the other black block with staffs. Later my student talked with a local former black panther who said that he recognized people in the second black block as neo-nazis. I just heard a report on the radio that a black protestor was shot and would not be surprised if this also turns out to be the work of white supremecist.
