Is class consciousness dependent of theory? Lenin certainly thought so. Marx, however, avers that consciousness, including class consciousness - does not necessitate theory, i.e., the professional aid of the intelligentsia (the dialecticians). Indeed the evidence supporting the latter is before us. After all, what is the slogan "we are the 99%" but a recognition of the class distinction between those for whom capitalism is the instrument for their political and economic control and those for whom capitalism is the instrument for their oppression? -- Victor Friedlander
