Have people read Tyler Branch's excellent piece in The Atlantic, The Shame
of College Sports?

Apologies if it's already been mentioned.  It's a painstakingly researched
critique of the NCAA and the myth of "amateurism" and the idea of the
"student-athlete".  It came out before the Penn State scandal broke.
