Rooney knows fuck all about art, but it's interesting that his flat-footed critique resonates with Robert Hughes, who knows a lot.
Hughes's "The Shock of the New" is a good book. But his treatment of Basquiat (and others of the same era but especially Basquiat) was contemptible.
