[WS:] This would not be something to write home about, if it were not for the following passage:

"Poland has been the only EU member state to avoid recession, and this year its economy is forecast to grow by about 4%, the highest rate among the EU's seven largest economies."

Poland has a rather large manufacturing sector, courtesy of 40 years of communism and central planning, and an "underdeveloped" financial sector - which has been a frequent complaint of neo liberals there. It seems that this "backwardness" paid off when the economies based on financial speculations tanked. This is worth remembering when discussing alternatives to current finance capitalism.

It should also be underscored that the post-communist left, which embraced neo-liberalism (perhaps because former party apparatchiks went into banking after the fall of communism) were pretty much wiped out in this election.
