Here's Mike on that thread:
Mike A: It's simply untrue that opposition to this demand comes primarily from anarchists. I facilitated a meeting of the demands working group on Tuesday. The meeting ended in chaos because certain people attended with the sole purpose of disrupting the meeting. These people were centrists and libertarians, not anarchists. The centrists kept croaking, "This movement is not about Left and Right, " while the libertarians outed themselves by saying, "We don't need a federal jobs program because the government is already too big." Let's not reflexively blame everything on "the anarchists." 23 hours ago · Like · 2 people
Doug Henwood So the story about objections from people with names like Ketchup aren't true? 23 hours ago · Like
Elliott: Here are a list of demands from another Occupy Wall Street group, might be interesting to compare: We, the 99%, want to HAVE A LIFE! Let's call for a General Strike for:
1) Job for all minimum wage set by the workers organizations 2) Sustainable Unemployment Benefit up to the time of employment, amount set by workers organizations 3) Affordable (ie up to 20% of income), up-to free (if no income), quality-Housing for all. Housing is not a stinky shelter but an high quality accommodation incl free utilities and high speed internet 4) Free, high quality Health Care for all - Immediate wipe out of all care debts 5) Free, limitless Education for all - Immediate wipe out of all student loans 6) Free, high quality Child Care 7) Free, high standard Elderly/Pensioner/Vulnerable Care 8) Abolishment of Death Penalty and Life Imprisonment https://www.facebook.com/pages/Occupy-Wall-Street-what-the-99-want/201568026581784 Expand Preview 23 hours ago · Like · 1 person
Mike A: Yes, Ketchup objected to the demand. But the outright obstruction came from a different camp, the centrists and libertarians. Many anarchists certainly would oppose this demand (or any demand) if it came before the GA, but the centrists and libertarians, at least in that meeting, were determined to prevent the demand from coming before the GA at all. Ketchup and her allies, as far as I could tell, were not being so obstructionist. 23 hours ago · Like
