Mass strikes in Egypt going back to the early 2000s, independent labor organizing throughout the entire Arab region, the arrest of plutocrats, social media galore, etc. The folks at Jadaliyya have done an excellent job of covering these issues in English language format:
The thing is, the triumph of some degree of electoral democracy in many middle-income nations during the late 20th century was never accompanied by economic accountability. Mostly, new neolib elites continued the plundering ways of their military/one-party-state predecessors, until a later cycle of electoral uprisings broke out against the neolibs (Chavez, Lula, Putin). But what took decades for Brazil and Russia seems to be happening in months in Egypt.
