The difference between Mubarak and Obama is that the latter can be voted out of office easily enough, and will leave soon enough anyway. It remains to be seen whether Egypt's neoliberal-imperial complex is resilient enough to withstand the transfer of political power. We know very well that the United States' is. The American equivalent of Mubarak's departure would be something the economic-political elite couldn't give us without endangering their own power, not a minor annoyance like the resignation of a president.
