If only. Machine politics may not be especially noble from the POV of republican virtue -- much less a socialist politics -- but at least it entails bringing home some tangible loot for your ordinary constituents in exchange for votes. The Dems could use some more old-fashioned ward heelers with deep roots in their localities, as opposed to corporate lawyers who are tools of their donors and "strategic communications specialists" for hire.
