Carrol's position is ludicrous and indefensible. Teachers and students have many common interests - testing and charters are bad for both - and politically it's a loser to say that teachers are first and kids last. Carrol just likes to say things that sound militant and uncompromising, and since he doesn't really care about persuading people, that's fine with him.
