[lbo-talk] Collective idiocy....

Jordan wonders why a certain media story does not read as follows:

"Latinos are the most likely to say that they'd like someone to give more than two shits about the problem that, due to having a persistent economic underclass in the US, many young men find underground black-market economies more attractive than "minimum wage" jobs (which are increasingly unavailable anyway) and where, by their very nature, extreme violence is used to support the criminal enterprise. Latinos are more than twice as likely to die of gun-related violence as white Americans, and African Americans are more than five times as likely to die from gun violence as whites ..."

[WS:] It is rather simple - few people would be interested in the above story. Conservatives would accuse it of launching a "class warfare", assorted liberals would not like the fact that it identifies young minority men as those who victimize minority communities - which in their view is "blaming the victims", and for the majority of the population such a story is too complicated because it uses too many polysyllabic words. Blaming a fetish makes a much nicer story. -- Wojtek
