Statement of Solidarity with Occupy Oakland
Blog, Press
Occupy Detroit, committed to non-violence, stands in solidarity with Occupy Oakland and all other occupy movements against police retaliation and violence.
We Are The Many, Occupy Oakland Move-In Day (27 of 31)We are writing to you to express our unwavering solidarity with your struggle and our gratitude for your courage and creativity. No to police violence and retaliation! All those concerned with the violence ought to express their displeasure with Oakland Police and Mayor Jean Quan. We trust you, Occupy Oakland, to make your own strategic choices for your own community.
We strongly empathize with your struggle against a repressive police force. The preemptive, reckless, disproportionate and indiscriminate violence of the police against the Oakland commune is totally unacceptable and reprehensible. This affront calls out for justice and accountability.
We admire the courage and tenacity that Occupy Oakland has shown in the face of massive police violence and repression. Your bravery and strategic prowess have invigorated and affirmed our own struggles here in Detroit. You have expanded what is possible in this struggle, and we are grateful for that.
