I think people are fighting a bit of a straw-man here. The debt
jubilee was principally aimed at canceling debts that individual
households accrued as a result of not being able to meet their temple
or palace quotas (or taxes). there were debts excluded from the debt
jubilee like certain property that someone like the king owned. All
trade debts were excluded from the debt jubilee. following a debt
jubilee policy does not mean that every liability anyone has ever must
be canceled. The problem also is, these debts aren't going to be paid.
they simply can't be. the question is not whether or not these debts
or paid, but how they aren't paid. a debt jubilee is a much less
disruptive option then the alternative we are currently living.
