Below is a link to a calculator that breaks down an accurate cost of living 
and living wage by state and then county. I checked CA, Alameda and it seems 
pretty damned accurate. Rent for a studio (suitable for one person) is about 
1000/mo in urban areas. You can get lucky and find a one bedroom in bad 
areas for about that.

where the single adult housing is estimated at 472/mo...
