Yeah, I just read Sportsman's Sketches a few weeks ago for the first time. I was blown away and highly recommend it to everyone. It must be a first in literature...I can't think of anything like it that comes before. If memory serves both Chekhov and Tolstoy said it was the best thing he'd done.....and Tolstoy maintained a thinly disguised envy (and rage) at Turgenev all his life.
