The increasing provincialism and vacuity of the US media, and/or superficiality and illiteracy of its audience? The fact that there were no significant social movement explosions in the run-up to the election (unlike '94 and '06)? The declining interest in Latin America given the waning of the Pink Tide? Or I am just projecting the thinness of substantive discussion on lbo-talk onto the mediascape?

I plead guilty. I paid it next to no attention, and I'm not sure why. I spent a lot of time in the 90s and early 00s being interested in Mexico, but maybe the rot of the US has forced my gaze inward? I don't know.
