[lbo-talk] Karl Rove's plan

Ken's basic premise is wrong wrong wrong. Marx was correct in Wages, Price, Profit when he spoke of Austerity (not his term) as r educing workers to one mass of wretches incapable of any higher goals. This contempt of workers for having the wrong is politically crippling. Doug is quite correct about the effect of Austerity. We can hope that resistance to it will grow, but if it does for the early stages it will be for the most part workers _not_ so badly affected by austerity. Charles Post has done a pretty exhaustive history of who did the fighting (initially at least) in all the great upsurges of working-class struggle, and almost _always_ it was that sector of the working-class which too many leftists (including Marx, Engels, Lenin, & Trotsky) have sneered at -- the so-called labor aristocracy.

More likely they'll turn on Mexicans and each other.

Canadians.
