  Sending in the marines would be much more politically unpalatable in most cases. Sending in marines gets marines killed lAmericans do not mind foreigners being killed as collateral damage but they do mind U.S. troops being killed if it can be avoided as it can using drones. Sending in the marines would not be a real option in places such as Pakistan because it is politically unacceptable. Sending in drones may not be either but the U.S. thinks it can ignore that fact.

[WS:I do not understand this whole brouhaha about drones.  How are they different than sending in the marines?  It seems that this whole brouhaha hinges more on Luddite sentiments than on a reasoned opposition to war as such.
