Mangabeira Unger's approach to advancing the "progressive" cause -- as

Obama must be defeated.  The Republicans win, but things won't get
much worse.  In any case, temporary worse holds the promise of
long-lasting better.  Because then there'll be a scramble for the
direction of the Democratic Party.  And the "progressives" will have a
better chance of prevailing.

He was one of Obama's professors at Harvard Law School.
