Teaching is aboaut as erotic as playing softball or a family picnic. This
attempt to eroticize or otherwise mystify schooling is probably at the basis
of an inability achieve a rational political perspective on schools &
faculty.

Geez. Teachers can be and often (usually) develop a very good human
relationship with their classes. That's all. And human relations take to
many different and complex manifestations for this sort of reductive
perspective on them. If a sentence about human relations contains or can be
rewritten to contain any form of the word "essential," then that sentence is
reductive nonsense.
