There is also the reality that schools function as community centers and resources. Privatizing this space would play a huge role in taking away the only social/political space available to the poor.

[WS:] Probably, but it seems that teachers are getting special attention, certainly more than TSA employees with whom adults interact more, and in more unpleasant ways, than with teachers. However, as Graeber observed, most Americans seem to have particular reverence for cops, and TSA is not unionized - so that may make a difference.
