Perhaps we could make everyone happy by just moving the US one hour forward
for good i.e., make EDT/CDT/PDT/etc EST/CST/PST.

I too like daylight tie, but this suggestion would be (was in the '70s)
disastrous. Parents in particular hate to see their children go to school in
pitch darkness. It _may_ even contribute to SAD (Seasonal Affective
Disorder) -- i.e., cause depression rather than happiness.
