It's a *process*, that develops over time, not a prix-fixe menu of more or less unpalatable entrees in some dismal poorly-lit restaurant, with a TV endlessly playing CNN at high volume.

I have seen this happen to journals. They 'reach' for a slightly more 'popular' readership, losing some of their original readers. Then they reach further away from their starting point, losing more of their core readership. It happened to Ramparts back in the '60s. This is what may have happened to WBAI?
