The response on prison abolition is a good example of the gap between a political and a policy perspective -- and the almost complete irrelevance (or worse) of the latter to clear thinking about left program. One simply cannot think about left program while trapped in the policy swamp.

If a new mother ignored the wails of here infant for food and instead spent her time trying to figure out what college to send her to -- that's what happens when leftists think about policy.

Yup. I think my question now that we're on this is will we always need police? Could police have a different job?

I'm harping on this because whenever "prison aboliton" comes up there's a response about what do we do with bad guys (and they're mostly guys).
