A close friend of mine has a kid who is in near constant trouble and he is now twenty-one. He uses drugs, and generally has a careless fuck up attitude. My buddy has been trying to keep him out of jail ever since about the 8th grade. It's a losing battle. His son is on probation for a serious burglary from four or so years ago.
Another buddy is a teacher and makes extra money for being in charge of detention. His room is getting too crowded. So, he did some statistics and discovered that over a quarter of his evil doers are doing time for what amount to violations of adminstrative proceedures, stupid infractions like not bringing parental permission slips back signed. He was planning on bringing it up in staff meeting with the principle-superviser who is in charger of two schools and is hard to get a hold of.
So our whole school and corrections system is just too oppressive and leads to too many guys in prison, starting with bad attitude as kids.
